Germany, Hamburg -- The Elbe River (I)

The Elbe is one of the major rivers of Central Europe. It rises in the Krkonoše Mountains of the northern Czech Republic before traversing much of Bohemia (Czech Republic), then Germany and flowing into the North Sea at Cuxhaven, 110 km (68 mi) northwest of Hamburg. Its total length is 1,094 kilometers (680 mi)

Water is the life of the city. For Hamburg, it is almost very important. Clear Elbe flowing slowly on land of German, in the water will reach the end, encounter the same leisure and quiet Hamburg. Hamburg's position as the Elbe estuary and connecting the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, which is Germany's largest port.

From the subway station Jungfernstieg to the Elbe, also ten minutes away. We went to the river, there is a marina pier. This is Hamburg's "Water Station", named St.Pauli Pier, built in 1910. For the year is to cross the Elbe ferries and ferry jetty. It has now become a tourist marina, the Port of Hamburg Cruise tour stops here.

Although the port, but it is a castle-style building, the large stone blocks, and has a castle-style circular dome and bell tower. The top of the dome and bell tower are "bronze green", with the same color as the town hall roof. "Drift" in the river is 700 meters long floating dock, connected by several iron bridge and the shore of the "castle."

Hamburger Harbour -- Gateway to the World

Standing on the Elbe side, we can see the other side cranes everywhere. This is the busy Port of Hamburg, which is Germany's most important water hub. Port of Hamburg is Europe's second largest port. But look at the map can be found, in fact, Germany is not a long coastline, and only have a short northeast and northwest respectively bordering the Baltic Sea, the North Sea. And although not directly coastal Hamburg, but near the Elbe estuary, just 110 km from the North Sea, the Elbe by seagoing direct port of Hamburg, naturally become Germany " Gateway to the World."

In the Port of Hamburg, historic buildings in groups. This modern building is very special. Under circular buildings, cars and subways, they have their own way. Hamburg's land too crowded.

Speicherstadt -- Hamburg warehouse

This is a very unique buildings, all-brick facades, six-story building uniform, the uniform curved arched windows, and these buildings are built near the water. Very long two rows of red brick house, tucked a long waterway. It is somewhat similar to China in Suzhou, Shaoxing Roadway. But China's southern residential Roadway on both sides of a two-story, waterways on both sides of the red brick warehouse building is six layers.

These waterways and roads in front of houses, are used to transport goods. It is also located in the building exquisite design, convenient transport, so this piece of architecture built in the 19th century became the world's largest warehouse was integrated market. Now, the warehouse has become Hamburg's most famous tourist attractions, has opened a lot of museums.
