Wandering to Alabama

A person's life journey is always wonderfulIt looks like God has arranged it. When I was a little girl, I followed my parents as they moved often. I accompanied my parents as they moved from north to south, moving from one city to another city in the country. When I became a man's wife, I followed my husband and travel extensively, moved from north to south, moving down from one
country to another.  Now I live in the 29th state of the United States known as the "country" --- Alabama.

Alabama is located in the southeastern United States, south of Florida, along the Gulf of Mexico, and belonging to the United States’ 14 southern states. Alabama has 67 counties, like "Heart of Dixie" (Heart of Dixie is a nickname for the southern states). Montgomery is the capital of Alabama and Birmingham is the most populous city. The largest city area-wise is Huntsville and the oldest city is Mobile.

Mobile, Alabama is third largest city in the state and the only port city. Located in the north shore of Mobile Bay, Mobile estuary, the city was built in 1711. It is a busy port and a famous resort tourist area. USS Battleship Memorial Park is located in the harbor and it is one of the best American Military Parks.

At Mobile’s Battleship Memorial Park, you don’t have to look very far to find heroes. The battleship USS Alabama and the submarine USS Drum, along with over 25 aircraft, encompass the spirit of military pride which is alive and well in this area.

Aboard the battleship you will be able to explore 12 decks. Among those, you can climb inside gun turrets, get locked in the brig, and man a 12mm gun, and much more.

Also at Battleship Memorial Park, you will be able to go aboard the oldest Submarine on public display, the USS Drum. Go below and see firsthand the conditions that confronted our Navy’s submariners.

In the Aircraft Pavilion, as well as in the park, you will be able to view many rare and historical aircraft. A few in our collection include: A-12 Blackbird spy plane, OS2U Kingfisher, F-86L Sabre Jet, YF-17, B-52 Bomber, and VH-IN (otherwise known as Marine One.) These are just a few of the rare war birds you will find on display. Standing on the highest deck, looking out towards Moby Bay Bridge, the scenery is very beautiful and magnificent.

The world’s most famous Mardi Gras is located in the United States in New Orleans and Mobile and in Sydney, Australia. But America's earliest Mardi Gras celebrations started in 1703 in French colony of Mobile making it the world‘s first MardiGras.

In the past 300 years, Mobile is known as the “City of Six Flags,” having flown the French, Spanish, British, Republic of Alabama, Confederate and, of course, the flag of the United States.

Along the Gulf of Mexico, through Florida and Alabama, is the Gulf Shores Orange Beach which is very famous resort area. Natural sugar, white, clean, soft sand dot over dozens of kilometers of the coast. Blue sea and sky come together to form a beautiful picture. On the 1,540-foot-long fishing pier in Gulf Shores, you can fish the harbor and it’s where the chefs can cook fish in three different ways.
