The Speicherstadt (city of warehouses, meaning warehouse district) in Hamburg Harbour, 1.5
km long. Hamburg, Germany is the largest
warehouse area in the world,
standing timber pile
foundation construction, oak
logs, in this
particular case. It is located in the east of the port of
Hamburg within an
area of 300,000 square meters, it
was built in 1883 to 1927.

The
Red Brick-Gothic storages were built in times of historicism. Their facades are
decorated with balconies, orioles and towers with some neo-medieval elements.
The few post-war buildings repair very well. Canals alternate with streets so
the warehouses can be accessed both from water and land.

These
seven to eight-layer red-brick Gothic building, a total of seventeen warehouse,
they have a hundred years of history. They established near the canal,
stretches without a break. It occupies the west of the port of Hamburg, east to
the edge of the old town a few canals. Transportation, relying on several
blocks of cast iron and steel bridge connections between buildings.

The
building has a long and narrow windows, and huge, as dark as the doorway
entrance, it is convenient for goods entering and leaving. At the top of every
doorway has a lifting device, use this method to allow goods into and out of
the warehouse.

This
area is not a hundred years ago, that is full of coffee, spices, cocoa and
oriental carpet warehouse. Now, this area bears that Hamburg centuries of
history, and taste of the city.

Speicherstadt
is a typical North German architecture, see the sailor knot on the window, you
can feel the atmosphere of it once. A sacks of cocoa, coffee and tea are stored
here, and even now can smell the aroma of nutmeg and curry powder.

Ancient
architecture looks very pretty in bright sunlight. Old scenery scene no longer
appear. But there is still a detective movie, and even love story was filmed.

Now, with the passage of time, no
longer warehouse city to its former glory, this area was transformed
into a variety of styles of restaurants
and museums, all of which plot
and scenes, have been frozen in the pictures and models.

The
Miniatur-Wunderland, Speicherstadt-Museum, Spicy's Spice Museum, Hamburg
Dungeon, the International Maritime Museum, The German Customs Museum, Dialogue
in the Dark and so on. Each comes from a different point of view can tell you
the history of the city of Hamburg.
Tips:
1. Speicherstadt, which is not far
from Hamburg city center, within walking distance from City Hall in about 15-20
minutes.
2. If you choose to walk to the
Speicherstadt, advisable to carry a map. Tortuous paths circling that area, who
will be lost first visit.
3. The boat ride along the canal to
Speicherstadt, it was a good choice. In the Inner Alster, Speicherstadt nearby
marina can take a cruise.

4. Speicherstadt, that there are a
lot of museums. If you want to visit each of at least 2-3 days to arrange. Museum
exhibitions are very attractive, but some exhibitions English presentation is
very simple, to understand complex exhibits will cause some difficulties.

Take
the U3 arrival Baumwall station, back through a Bridge; or U1 arrival Meßberg
station forward.
