Germany, Schwerin - a different kind of charm

Schwerin, the city has less than 100,000 residents, it is the smallest state capital in Germany. Picturesque scenery around Schwerin city, a number of lakes flowing into the city, the water reflecting the North German bright sky, floating clouds, and the city's symbol - Schwerin Palace (Schweriner Schloss), unique architectural style, extraordinary momentum.

Schwerin city established in the year 1160. For centuries, hundreds of years of changing it, but the old town largely intact, because only slightly damaged in World War II.

Schwerin Train Station (Schwerin Hauptbahnhof

Schwerin train station was built in 1889- 1890. It was designed by E. Müller in the style of the Founder time (Germen: Gründerzeit), it looks very chic. Schwerin train station, next to a small museum, which has introduced. Former Schwerin Station Square is named Rettung in Seenot ("rescue at sea"), bronze sculpture fountain, which was built in 1910 and designed by Hugo Berwald.

Schwerin Cathedral (German: Schweriner Dom)

Former Schwerin Train Station Square, through the right side of the road to the Pfaffenteich pond. From here you could see much of the tall spire, it is Schwerin Cathedral (German: Schweriner Dom). Schwerin Cathedral (German: Schweriner Dom), which is 117.5 meters high tower, built in between 1889-1893, is a brick Gothic architecture. It is one of the most important holy church in northeastern Germany.

Armory (Arsenal am Pfaffenteich

Arsenal am Pfaffenteich, was founded in 1840. For the arsenal in 1844, and after World War I, as a police barracks. Hitler period, it made a barracks. World War II, it made short-term refugee camps. Until July 1947, the building was used by the Authority of the German people police (BDVP). Since 1990, the Arsenal headquarters of the Interior Ministry in Schwerin.

Heinrich von Stephan

This is to commemorate the founder of the World Postal Association, Heinrich von Stephan. Heinrich von Stephan (January 7, 1831 – April 8, 1897) was a general post director for the German Empire who reorganized the German postal service. He was integral in the founding of the Universal Postal Union in 1874, and in 1877 introduced the telephone to Germany.

Fairytale Schwerin Palace (German: Schweriner Schloss) is
located on Lake Schwerin (Schweriner See) and an island in the castle lake (Burgsee) between. It is a symbol of Schwerin. Fairytale Schwerin Palace (German: Schweriner Schloss) famous buildings around the main palace garden (Schlossgarten), the National Museum (Staatliches Museum), Victory Column (Siegessäule), the old palace (Altes Palais), Palace Stables (Marstall) and filled with classical flavor of state Chancellery (Staatskanzlei). Mecklenburg State Theatre (Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater).

Castle Garden (Schlossgarten)
The romantic location of the castle, on an island between the Burg See and the Schweriner See, fits the mood of the period in which it was built - as a home for the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The castle garden (Schlossgarten) was designed by Peter Joseph Lenne in the 1840s. It has a Mixed Style assembly of features, including a grotto, arcades, terraces and flights of steps. The older baroque garden was designed in 1848 by the French designer Jean Legeay and has been restored. The castle garden (Schlossgarten) is one of the most beautiful baroque in northern Germany.

National Museum Schwerin (Staatliches Museum)
This neo-Classical building (1877-1882) houses Dutch and Flemish collections from the 17C and European collections from the 18C and 19C. Vestiges of Stone Age Slav settlements can be seen in the prehistory section.

Here, you can wander the ancient and contemporary masters art gallery (Galerie Alte und Neue Meister), indulging in 16-18 century Flemish and Dutch artists region among the wonderful work, but also enjoy a taste of Marcel Duchamp conceptual art.

Victory Column (Siegessäule)

The Victory Column at the Old Garden in Schwerin is a "monument to the left in the wars of 1870-71 Mecklenburg". On the column is the allegorical figure Megalopolis which personifies the state of Mecklenburg.

State of the Prime Minister (Staatskanzlei)

The University Building I (also: Government Building I or State Chancellery) is a representative, Grade I listed building in the old town of Schwerin. The building is located in Schlossstraße 2-4 and adjoins the old garden. It is now the headquarters of the State Chancellery of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Mecklenburg State Theatre (Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin)

The Mecklenburg State Theatre (German: Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin) is the principal theatre of Schwerin in Germany. Its main theatre (or Grosses Haus) seats 650 people and is used for the performance of plays, opera, musical theatre and ballet. Designed by Georg Daniel. It was built between 1883 and 1886 after the previous theatre had been destroyed by fire in 1882.


City of Seven Lakes, north of Florence, the city cathedral, the palace of the city...... Today Schwerin has many name. Faced Schwerin, people never begrudge praise, but also worthy of Schwerin: natural beauty, artificial buildings, large and small art scene, as well as the long history of the perfect fusion here. You can walk on the Market Square (Marktplatz) the goose egg-shaped stone floor. You can experience the customs of the people in the alley in the Old City. You can also visit the Schelfstadt region where the historic buildings, of course, can also enjoy the dreamlike beauty of the palace.
