Germany, Wismar’s Miracle

Wismar, it is a port city located in Mecklenburg -  Pomerania (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) in Germany. This port city, facing the Baltic Sea, there are about forty-five thousand population. Into the Old Town, people still feel the appearance of the 14th century heyday of the Hanseatic League: ancient streets like the network, building land, the pattern of agricultural land preserved to this day, that is no big change. Legacy building is proof of political economy as medieval city of Wismar. In June 2002 the old town of Wismar, a UNESCO "World Cultural Heritage."

In this "brick" the city's most striking, it was six brick church. Church of St. George (St. Georgen Kirche) , which is not only one of the three major churches in the city of Wismar, and it is also a classic example of Brick Gothic church in the North German area. The construction process of the church, it has undergone a long period of time. St. George (St. Georgen Kirche) Church’s history dates back to the 13th century, which began just as the artisans and small business owners of worship, afterward repeated expansion. Build a huge project, and off through the late Middle Ages and the Reformation period, eventually completed in 1594.

However, Church of St. George (St. Georgen Kirche) in World War II and many monuments, like not immune to disaster. In April 14, 1945 night, the church was hit by two bombs, which badly damaged. Between 1945 -- 1990, Church of St. George (St. Georgen Kirche) still has a lot of disasters, but also by a few destroyed.

In the local government's efforts, the city’s residents have responded positively, set up their own reconstruction association for church donations. By the end of 2005, St. George's Church (St. Georgen Kirche) has been restored to its former appearance: 80 meters long and nearly 40 meters wide, the clock was re-linked to the 40-meter-high bell tower. However, due to shortage of funds, the church interior renovation is not yet complete. Wismar's residents are still trying to repair churches.

Standing on St. George (St. Georgen Kirche) Church the tower, you could see the panorama of the old city of Wismar, Church of St Nicholas (St. Nikolai Kirche) on one of them.

Church of St. Nicholas (St. Nikolai Kirche)

The church of St Nicholas (St. Nikolai Kirche) , built in 1381–1460, with very lofty vaulting, together with the St. Marien (Marienkirche), are regarded as good examples of the influence exercised in these northern provinces by the large church of St Marien (Marienkirche) in Lübeck.

St. Marien Church (St. Marien Kirchturm) 

St. Marien Church (St. Marien Kirchturm) tower over 80 meters high, it is the only remaining brick Gothic architecture. Hard to imagine that it really is a brick, a brick barrier up, built in the 13th century. Badly damaged in World War II, but was finally destroyed in 1960.

Part of St. Marien Church (St. Marien Kirchturm) was destroyed, it turned out to be very spectacular. Now the remaining side wall surface, it shows the relentless war and the vicissitudes of history. Where people are collecting money to rebuild the destroyed section.

Holy Spirit Hospital (Heiligen-Geist-Hospital)

From this corner go straight, the red brick building, which is famous Holy Spirit Hospital (Heiligen-Geist-Hospital).

Holy Spirit Hospital (Heiligen-Geist-Hospital) as a poorhouse and hospital in Wismar, which was established in 1250. History rectangular hall Gothic church dating back to the 15th century. Worth a visit is the Baroque style painted wood-beamed ceilings and mural "Dior Gracia.". It is full of medieval works of art.
